The making of – Bless Me Child For I Have Sinned

Chair & Kneeler

This is a photo of the plexiglas Confessional that became my message board for news articles relevant to the work and where I would keep all of my prototype components. There are 3 different size chairs here. I made 5 chairs in total to see what size was right. I wanted a child-size chair that would be for a 7-8 yr old.

In this photo, I was designing the kneeler and Brian who worked with me on the project stepped inside and knelt down so that we could figure out the right size for a kneeler for a grown man. I noticed later that the reflection of the telephone poles on the street outside made a "cross" on his face. November 28, 2011

The kneeler half-way finished

I wanted to make a cushion of nails for the kneeler. Brian who worked with me on the project, found this honeycomb material that is used in aerospace design for its light weight quality. It worked perfectly. A nail fitted exactly in each of the honeycomb slots. We made a template for the cushion and Brian cut every single nail to fit the pattern. It took over 3000 nails to make the kneeler. August 17, 2011
