CONFESS

The making of - Bless Me Child For I Have Sinned

April 2010 – March 2013

In 2010 my mother Peggy, a mother of nine children and a lifetime devoted Catholic told me at the age of 84 that she didn’t want to go to Mass anymore because of what the priests had done to the children. Heart-broken, I couldn’t stand by and watch her silently walk away from her spiritual home at the most vulnerable time of her life.

I was compelled to create a work of art that would shed light on these crimes. Re-visioning the sacrament of penance and reconciliation, I built a transparent glass confessional, reversing the traditional roles. There is a child-size white chair for the child to sit on and a kneeler for the priest to kneel and say sorry to the child. This installation is called, “Bless Me Child For I Have Sinned”.
